Dr. M G Pillai is an experienced Cardiologist known for his passion for science, technology, and a dedicated commitment to helping those in need. Dr. Pillai has made significant contributions to Interventional Cardiology in India. He was a pioneer in performing Coronary Angioplasty in the country in 1986 and has continued to excel in Complex PTCA and stenting over the past three decades. His expertise extends to Primary PTCA for acute myocardial infarction, including complex angioplasty techniques like Rotablation, IVUS, OCT, and Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL). Through state-of-the-art procedures, he has helped numerous patients achieve their wellness goals.
In terms of education, Dr. Pillai achieved academic excellence, passing his MBBS examination with distinction and earning a silver medal for Medicine in 1974.
He completed his MD in Medicine with the second rank and pursued further training in Cardiology, where he secured the first rank in DM Cardiology in 1981.
Dr. Pillai is currently a visiting consultant at renowned hospitals such as Lilavati Hospital, Bandra Mumbai, P.D. Hinduja Hospital Khar, and Apollo Hospital Navi Mumbai. He is also a certified teacher for post-doctoral training in Cardiology. In addition to his clinical work, he actively engages in academic endeavors, presenting and publishing papers in national and international conferences and journals. He has had the privilege of chairing and organizing various academic session.
Throughout his career, Dr. Pillai has received several awards and accolades, including the BARD International First Prize for Best Case Contest in Interventional Cardiology. This award provided him with specialized training in complex coronary interventions at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA.
Dr. Pillai is a life member of various professional societies, including the Cardiological Society of India, Interventional Council of India, Indian College of Cardiology, and a Fellow of the Indian Society of Electrocardiology. Beyond his professional commitments, he is deeply interested in music, particularly Carnatic music, and serves as the President of Swaralaya, an organization dedicated to promoting music and arts in Mumbai. His love for the arts has earned him recognition, including the Kala Sevaka Ratna award from Bangalore Music Sabha in 2001. He has also been a patron of Chembur Fine Arts and Music College and a governing council member of Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha, showcasing his commitment to supporting various art forms.
